Moments ago, the California Supreme Court announced its deeply disappointing decision to uphold Proposition 8.
While we are pleased that the court recognized the legal marriages of the 18,000 same-sex couples married in 2008, we are saddened by the Prop 8 decision.
But we don’t have time to mourn the failure of the state court to restore marriage equality to California.
It’s time to go on offense. To be fearless in our fight for equality. Starting right now: Go to Courage Campaign.
I’m in Atlanta right now and a rally is planned from 5:30pm to 10pm at Piedmont Park. More protests will be happening throughout the nation.

SteadyCat,
I’m in California and yesterday’s decision made me a third-class citizen. It was such a strange decision to allow the 18,000 marriages of same gender couples to remain valid and yet deny the same right to everyone else. It creates three classes of people here. I’m just sad.
I think it might be time for me to move from this backward State to a State that believes in equality.
Oh noooo. It was an unexpected turn of events. But I don’t think it’s over. It has surprised everyone that California has set such an example. The nasty part of me wants to now take away everyone’s right to get married and any tax, legal, medical benefits they have acquired. If all can’t have it, none should have it.

This saddened me so much I couldn’t even blog about it for fear of coming off like a ranting, raving, angry lunatic. In any case, the fight is far from over, it simply must be framed correctly. In the sense that when it reaches the Supreme Court of the United States, eventually, and it will, the suit must be framed in a way that clearly outlines that this is plainly and simply state and government sactioned discrimination.
Yes indeed. You have put it well.

You know that I’ve been trying to help people better understand each other for awhile. This may be a bit drastic, but perhaps it will bring the point home to everyone. Why not just take everyone’s rights away for an undetermined length of time or put every right up for a vote and see how it feels.
I’m not even gay, but have argued with so many people to who are so against same-sex marriage so much that I’ve gotten tired of explaining essentially, “What is equality” to them.
The problem is deeper than this one issue. It’s man’s inhumanity to man. I can keep going on this one, but I’ll stop.
Steadycat, you already know I gotcha back.
Hiya Tim. *waves* It’s good to see you around.
