At the time of Micheal’s TV appearance, I was his age, growing up in a small southern town and bumping against rigid racial rules about how the world should operate. When little Michael and his brothers appeared on TV it was as if a magic wand had been waved. Every black child I knew got an instantaneous injection of pride. The feeling that has nothing to do with family and everything to do with being seen through a different lens. His fame has never been only about the music. Michael was the key that opened doors that were previously locked tight. He is/was a history key.
Deepak Chopra has written a tribute to Michael here.

Hi Steady,
Yep, Michael changed so much. Pop music stars of today owe him for making pop music as big as it is.
He was so amazing as a kid. I’ve been watching the early performances and wow!
Hi, Monie. Yes indeed. He was amazing.

Absolutely right. Michael Jackson changed the face of music forever…he was a true genius.
Of all places to see one of his concerts was in Romania. Living and working overseas for so many years…October 1992 was the FIRST time I’d ever gotten a “bit of the USA” while being so far. I’ll never forget…..

Hi, Michelle. I’ve missed you.
You got to see a concert? I bet it was splendid. I only had the albums and the magazines and the posters and my imagination that I was married to Michael.

Irrelevantly, I’m here, in the A, drove it in 48 hours. You still here?
I hope you enjoy Atlanta. It is a lovely place to be. Cheers.

Hi Steadycat. There were plenty of groups and solo performers out there but there was something special about watching the J5 perform together. And we know how magical it was watching Mike just on tv. I have a framed poster of the brothers (without Jermaine) on my library wall. We lost a gift.
We did indeed.
